What if your commute could boost your mood, cut your costs, and reduce your impact on the environment – all before your working day even begins? At 1599 at the Royal College, we’re proud to support a smarter, more sustainable way to travel helping staff, delegates, and visitors embrace a healthier, more rewarding journey to work.
At 1599, our commitment to sustainability is reflected in our Green Tourism journey, progressing from Bronze to a Silver Award – a recognition of our ongoing efforts to operate responsibly and reduce our environmental impact. Encouraging cycling plays a vital role in supporting a healthier, more sustainable workplace culture. We also extend this approach to our events – actively encouraging delegates and visitors to travel sustainably, enhancing both their experience and our shared environmental responsibility.
We know that making the switch to cycling can feel like a big step – especially for beginners. That’s why 1599 offers accessible, practical support to make the transition as smooth as possible. Our on-site facilities include convenient and secure bike parking, puncture repair kits for quick fixes, bike pumps and essential tools available at reception and additional locks for extra peace of mind. These resources are here to remove barriers and ensure cycling is a realistic, stress-free option for everyone.
Cycling to 1599 is more accessible than ever. Our central location, combined with Glasgow’s expanding cycle network, makes commuting by bike an efficient and enjoyable option. We value the response from those who work at the college. This testimonial from Paul Whitehead who cycles in most days via the South City Way from Shawlands encapsulates what cycling to work means to him. "Cycling is a great way to get to the Royal College. While we are the top of the hill there are good options to take more gentle routes via Sauchiehall St which is especially handy for routes to the west. We have good secure cycle stands at the front of the building that are sheltered from the inevitable Glasgow shower"
Whether you’re part of the 1599 team or visiting for an event, choosing to cycle reflects a shared commitment to health, sustainability, and positive change. It’s a small decision that makes a big difference – to your day, your wellbeing, and the environment.
So why not take the first step? Choose cycling. Choose a healthier commute. Choose to support a more sustainable future. Make your next journey to 1599 at the Royal College one that truly counts!
